
Inspector
This role focuses on inspecting fire sprinkler, alarm, extinguisher, and special hazard systems, completing inspection documentation, and working in compliance with NFPA standards. We support technicians who want to cross-train, earn additional licenses, and grow into advanced roles, including leadership opportunities.


Fire Captain - Prevention
The purpose of this position is to assist the Fire Marshal in overseeing and engaging in the City's fire prevention, public education, and fire inspection / investigation programs. The goal of this activity is the preservation of lives and property within the community as defined in Article 6.01 and Article 6.02 of the Code of Ordinances. Under the direction of the Fire Marshal, this position will oversee and perform fire inspections, review construction plans for code compliance, ensure new and existing construction follows codes and ordinances, determine cause and origin of fires, and attend training sessions. Position will also conduct and oversee plan review, fire permitting, and acceptance testing for all fire protection systems. Other duties may include educating the community on fire safety and first aid procedures, completing special emergency management projects, and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.

Deputy Fire Marshal
Under the direction of the Fire Marshal, this position is accountable for assisting nuisance/abatement as outlined H&SC Chapter 341 and 343 and fire investigations as required by VCS Art. 1606C as well as training of County employees and citizens involved in all four phases of emergency management. Patrols unincorporated areas and enforces applicable state and local laws to prevent illegal dumping, littering, the accumulation of refuse and junk near public highways, the regulations of sight distances along County roads, and public nuisances. Ensures environmental safety in unincorporated areas, and other areas throughout Dallas County when requested by city or state agencies.

Fire Inspector
Under minimal supervision, this entry-level part-time Fire Inspector position is consistent with duties that would be assigned to a Fire Prevention Officer, Fire Inspector, Fire Protection Engineer, Fire Safety Education Officer, or Fire Investigator within the scope of the employees training. At the direction of the Fire Marshal, this position will also assist with fire safety education and public relations programs and conduct and/or assist with fire inspections and fire investigations as assigned.

Fire Prevention Specialist / Arson Investigator
This role serves as a key member of the Fire Prevention Division and is responsible for promoting fire and life safety through inspections, engineering (plan review), and fire and arson investigations. This position performs technical, investigative, and administrative duties to ensure compliance with applicable fire codes, standards, ordinances, and criminal statutes. Depending on assignment, the FPS/AI conducts field inspections, reviews construction documents and fire protection system designs, determines the origin and cause of fires and explosions, and pursues criminal investigations into arson, insurance fraud, and related offenses.

Plan Reviewer / Fire Inspector
Under general supervision, conduct fire prevention inspections and investigate fire cause and origin. Conduct fire safety educational programs and other related activities. Review fire detection and suppression plans for acceptance.
Work on-call duty as needed. Perform other related work as required.

Fire Marshal
The Fire Marshal helps safeguard the life and property of Rockwall County citizens through enforcement of the adopted Fire Code and applicable statutes related to fire, explosives, and other hazardous materials. Key responsibilities include review and inspection of structures, alarm & sprinkler systems, fire lanes, and fire hydrants to ensure they meet regulatory safety standards. The Fire Marshal will also play a primary role in investigating fires within the County, as well as public education and awareness of fire safety.

Fire Inspector
Under the direct supervision of the Fire Marshal, employee is responsible for performing such tasks as inspections, enforcing the City of The Colony ordinances, and conducting and assisting in fire investigations. Investigates routine complaints of fire/life safety hazards, incidents, and investigations of The Colony Fire Department. The position will be involved in varying degrees with public education, public relations, record keeping, and report writing.

Fire Inspector (Part Time)
Under limited supervision, the Part-Time Fire Inspector performs fire and life safety inspections, assists in fire investigations, supports EMS operations within certification levels (no firefighting), and aids in other fire department functions as needed. This position ensures compliance with fire codes, supports public safety initiatives, and provides technical expertise in fire prevention and life safety.
