Mapping Location Data and IP Investigations

While call detail records have supported investigations for years, modern cases require more precise location evidence from multiple providers. This class teaches the full process from legal acquisition through mapping and analysis.

David Kerr with the Firefighter Air Coalition will walk attendees through how these systems work, current code considerations, and what fire prevention professionals in North Texas should understand when reviewing and encountering these systems in the field.

Fire Inspector I & II / Plans Examiner
May 19 - Sept. 10, 2026 | Collin College Fire Academy | McKinney, Texas
The Fire Inspector course will prepare students to perform fire inspections with the purpose of limiting the risk of life and property loss by recognizing fire and safety hazards early. The students will be able to perform detailed fire inspections and recommend corrective actions. Upon successful completion of this course, students will take the state certification exam for Basic Fire Inspector I & Inspector II. This is a Hybrid course which meets 60% in class and 40% online. Please call for a detailed schedule. Plans Examiner includes (6) classroom days, course final, skill, & state exam.

Basic Fire Investigator Class

Introduction to the investigation of fires and explosions of known and unknown origin, including investigative techniques, collection and preservation of evidence, case preparation and presentation, point-of-origin, and arson law. Upon successful completion of this course, students will take the state certification exam for Fire Investigator.

ICS 300 | 21 hours
The goal of this professional development course, ICS 300 Intermediate Incident Command System for Expanding Incidents, is to provide training on and resources for overall incident management skills for personnel who require intermediate application of the Incident Command System (ICS).
ICS 400 | 15 hours
ICS400 is intended for an audience of experienced responders and other senior emergency management personnel who may perform in a management capacity for major or complex incidents (Type 1 or Type 2 incidents). Large and complex incidents that require the application of area command don’t happen often. Although this is an advanced ICS course, it is not intended to develop mastery of area command. The purpose of this course is to expose students to the concepts of utilizing area command in major and complex incidents.

Best Practices in Community Risk Reduction

This course demonstrates to students nationally recognized principles that, when used appropriately, can lead to community risk reduction programs that can measure success in local communities. This course will give students the opportunity to explore programs from communities across the U.S. that have been showcased at Vision 20/20 symposiums.
These programs demonstrate what nationally recognized organizations identify as examples of “best practices” in community risk reduction.
